facultyDr. John J. Corey
John J. Corey is an Aesthetic Plastic Surgeon who has practiced in Scottsdale, Arizona, since 1993. Board certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and a member of both the American Society of Plastic Surgeons and American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, he was Chief of Plastic Surgery at Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center in Phoenix from 1994-1999. Dr. Corey performs all types of cosmetic surgical procedures. He lectures at Arizona State University, and helps in the instruction of residents in plastic surgery at the Mayo Clinic. He is an Affiliate Assistant Professor at Midwestern University. He is one of the most respected and sought-after faculty members at the Osler Institute which provides hands-on review for practicing plastic surgeons nationwide who are preparing for their own Board certification. In 1998, Dr. Corey was voted one of the top doctors in plastic surgery by Maricopa County physicians in a CBS Channel 5 poll.

Dr. Corey’s approach to plastic surgery draws on his training here in the United States as well as Brazil. After graduating from the University of Utah School of Medicine and fulfilling prerequisite training in general surgery at Maricopa Medical Center in Phoenix, he entered the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta to begin his plastic surgery residency sculpting the form and creating the curve and lines of the feminine shape.”

facultyDr. Betty Davis
Dr. Betty Davis offers a wealth of practical knowledge and research experience as the head instructor of National Laser Institute’s continuing education courses.  Dr. Davis is a Board Certified Dermatologist who specializes in Cosmetic Dermatology and MOHs Surgery for Skin Cancer.  She currently practices at Arizona Medical Clinic in Sun City.  Dr. Davis completed the Mohs and Procedural Dermatology Fellowship with Dr. Gary D. Monheit and Dr. Christopher B. Harmon in Birmingham, Alabama. She is a member of the American College of MOHs Micrographic Surgery and Cutaneous Oncology; The American Medical Association; The Arizona Medical Association; The American Society for Dermatological Surgery and is a Fellow of The American Academy of Dermatology. Dr. Davis also formerly served as Chief Resident of Dermatology in Colombia, Missouri and was awarded the most outstanding student and seminar in plastic surgery. 

facultyDr. Jeanette Jacknin
Dr. Jeanette Jacknin is a well-respected Dermatologist, author and clinical skin care expert.

In 1983 Dr. Jacknin received her medical degree from Medical College of Virginia where she remained to complete her Dermatology Residency and later serve as their Chief Resident. Dr. Jacknin is Arizona Board and Licensed and has served as a consultant to the Department of Dermatology at Maricopa County Hospital.

 

Dr. Jacknin is among the country’s top clinical experts in both conventional and alternative skin care therapies and cosmetic Dermatology. In 2001 she wrote the first and only comprehensive book on conventional and alternative skin care therapies for best-selling publisher, Penguin Putnam titled Smart Medicine for Your Skin. She has been featured in popular magazines such as Readers Digest, Men’s Health, Women’s World Magazine, and Better Homes and Gardens, and has appeared on radio shows such as Health Talk, The Deborah Ray Show and Wealth of Health Nutrition Hour. Her expertise has also been referenced for articles in publications such as Beacon News Health Bookshelf to Health, Lifestyles of Health and Sustainability (LOHAS) Journal, The Herald Journal, and more.

facultyJennifer Linder, M.D.
Dermatology and Mohs Skin Cancer Surgery

 

As a board-certified dermatologist and fellowship-trained Mohs skin cancer surgeon, Dr. Linder is dedicated to compassionate patient care, skin cancer awareness and skin care education. She serves as Chief Scientific Officer for PCA SKIN®, a medical skin care company and as one of the foremost experts on Sculptra (the filler facelift alternative) and is a national educator for Botox®, Juvéderm™ and Restylane®. She trained at Washington University, University of Pennsylvania and Thomas Jefferson University and continues as a Clinical Instructor at the University of California, San Francisco. Dr. Linder has been quoted in O (Oprah), Elle, Fitness, Shape, W, Parenting, New Beauty and Prevention, 3-TV, NBC-12 and regularly featured on ABC-15’s Sonoran Living.

facultyDr. Bill Dafnis

 

Dr. Bill Dafnis, or "Dr. Bill" as we adoringly call him, has been in Private Practice since 2004.  After working in a group practice he became the assistant program director at John C Lincoln's Family Medicine Residency program for several  years before returning to private practice.  Dr. Bill has been practicing aesthetics in an outpatient setting for over 6 years and has served as an instructor for over 4 years.  He has taught hundreds of doctor, nurses and dentists over this time and finds teaching others the art of aesthetics to be a very rewarding experience. Dr. Bill specializes in Botox, Dermal Fillers and Sclerotherapy and has spent extensive time over the years traveling across the country as an instructor for other CE/CME courses.

facultyDr. Sonja Pettersen
Sonja Pettersen N.M.D. is licensed in Arizona to practice primary care medicine specializing in natural therapeutics. She received her Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine from the National College of Naturopathic Medicine in Portland, OR in 1998 and completed a year of residency in 1999 at the same college. She is currently certified in the aesthetic arts of Laser hair removal and Botox injections. Dr Pettersen is one of the medical directors at Physician’s Skin Institute and a Laser Instructor at National Laser.

 

Dr. Pettersen’s practice harmonizes the Vis Medicatrix Naturae, or the healing power of nature with the modern day demands of her patients.  Her practice exemplifies a holistic
approach to patient care through a variety of modalities including Frequency Specific Microcurrent, European Drainage, clinical nutrition, botanical medicine, I.V. therapy including chelation, homeopathy, functional medicine, hyperbaric oxygen therapy, Ortho Bionomy and mind-body techniques. Jan is a Registered Nurse and Certified Laser Technician, holding a Bachelors degree in Business Administration. She brings her many years of experience in the health care field and personal success as a spa owner to help educate students and share her passion for this industry. Her current work as Western US Clinical Training Manager for one of the largest national laser companies in the country takes her across the US to educate and train on all aspects of light and laser physics, skin resurfacing and rejuvenation, hair reduction and photofacials. She is also certified in all aspects of aesthetic medicine, including microdermabrasion, chemical peels and injectables. Her interest and experience in business start up and marketing, allows students to benefit from her personal and professional experience, as well as her clinical expertise. At National Laser Institute, Jan takes pride in helping all students follow their dreams and achieve their goals.
facultyMary Sullivan-Bryan, RN
Mary Sullivan-Bryan,RN owner of  her own medical spa, attended Northwestern University and worked for 15 years in critical care before starting her aesthetic practice in Las Vegas five years ago. She  is certified by Inamed (the manufacturer of Collagen and Captique) as a dermal filler specialist. Upon specific request of Allergan, the Botox manufacturer. Mary is currently teaching exclusive Advanced Botox Injection technique seminars, called "Injecting with Confidence." She serves as a trainer and consultant for one of the largest publicaly traded Laser companies. Mary also is a faculty member/clinical educator of P.A.L.E.T.T.E. whose activities are supported by an unrestricted educational grant from Allergan, Inc.
facultySharon Epting, R.N., CLT
Sharon a Registered Nurses has been a  Health care professional for over twenty years. She transitioned into the aesthetic arena in 2000, where she discovered her passion. She is a Laser Certified Technician as well as instructor for National Laser Institute. Her expertise is Laser Hair Removal, Photo Facial, and Cellulite Reduction. Sharon has performed countless treatments, as well as managed Medspas in California and Arizona. She is currently a partner in a Arizona medical spa.

 "It is my philosophy that each student is a unique individual, and should be treated as such. My goal is to provide students with the knowledge and experience I have acquired, as well as assist each student in achieving confidence with treatment modalities".

facultyKris Drolshagen, CLT, LE, LSO
Sought out as an expert witness in laser related lawsuits for safety protocols and case reviews, Kris is known as an authority figure in the field of Advanced Laser Physics. She practices with Laser and Light-Based therapies, is a Licensed Aesthetician, Certified Laser Technician, Laser Safety Officer and one of the Lead Instructors at National Laser Institute. Kris has been educating on Lasers for over five years, and has appeared on many television shows in the Phoenix area regarding today’s most popular topics in Laser and Light: State Regulations, Hair Reduction, Photofacials, Acne Treatments and Tattoo Removal. Kris is also a member of the American Society for Laser Medicine & Surgery (ASLMS), which promotes excellence in patient care by advancing biomedical application of lasers and other related technologies worldwide, and speaks regularly at Aesthetic schools on the topic of lasers and treatments with such machines. She is known for bringing a quick sense of humor to her talks and for being able to make her teachings not only easy to understand, but fun as well. Almost obsessed with lasers, she has infamously trademarked The Laser Chick! clothing and t-shirt line.

Day has been a Aesthetician for 14yrs and has worked directly with Plastic surgeons, cosmetic dermatologist, naturopaths and medi spas. She is a Technical trainer and educator and practicioner for Lasers, IPL, Microcurrent, Microderm, dermaplane. She is an importer of European Microcurrent systems and aesthetic product line– specializing in cellular anatomy/physiology and the applications of microcurrent to positively affect ATP in the body for 7yrs. Day Travels nationally and internationally giving lectures and training on composite microcurrent technologies. She has appeared numerous times on “Your Life A-Z” as a Skincare consultant with Heidi Fogelsong.

Shana has over 22 years of experience in the cosmetic/aesthetic/medical industry. She has over 2000 hours of advance diploma certificate courses in paramedical aesthetic training. Shana is the national educator for Ultraceuticals and trained for 3 years for them internationally. She is a board certified instructor and trainer for various equipment modalities and an ARRA approved laser instructor. Many years of industry work include owning and operating a medical spa in California, putting together curriculums for esthetic schools and writing protocols and presentations for various cosmeceutical companies.

facultyShelley Cook, CLT
Shelley Cook, a California native is now a resident of Cave Creek Arizona, and has lived in the valley for 14 years. In addition to bearing the credentials of Laser Tattoo Specialist and Certified Laser Technician, Shelley is one of the only tattoo removal specialist in the valley that is also a Clinical Laser instructor at the nationally recognized National Laser Institute. On a monthly basis she teaches doctors, nurses, aestheticians and others how to perform safe and effective laser treatments. Shelley continues to teach as she has a passion for education, helping others and staying at the forefront of the industry. Shelley's customers feel like they are in great hands knowing their tattoo removal technician is also a current instructor of laser procedures. Shelley is also about to start training for one of the fasted growing publicly traded Laser Manufactures to train doctors, nurses, aestheticians and laser technicians how to perform tattoo removal procedures.

Kelly is a licensed Clinical Aesthetician and certified Laser technician, whom has worked in Medical Aesthetics for seven years. Kelly has worked with multiple Plastic Surgeons, where she developed a wealth of knowledge of all aesthetic procedures. She is certified and trained in Chemical Peels, Microdermabrasion, Laser Hair Reduction, Photo Facial (IPL), Tattoo Removal, and other laser procedures. Kelly is committed to continually educate herself and others on the latest cutting edge advances in Medical Aesthetics. Kelly is also currently attending nursing school to pursue cosmetic injections in addition to Laser.
facultyLaura Simonton,CLT, LSO
Laura Simonton received her Bachelors of Science in Biology in 1997 from Northern Arizona University. Building on that degree, as well as a minor in Business Administration and a CLS certification, she started her laser career in 2005 by founding her own aesthetic laser business. In 2007 she was recruited by Arizona Skin Specialists, a cosmetic Dermatology practice in Phoenix, to be their laser safety officer and Certified Laser Specialist. She is currently operating as an independent contractor at Physicians Skin Institute. Being a practitioner as well as an instructor at National Laser Institute, keeps her at the forefront of the industry.

Laura has been performing laser services with Nd:YAG and Alexandrite lasers and specializes in hair removal on ethnic skin, sun damage minimization as well as collagen stimulating facials. She has
a passion for this field and loves teaching others about the industry, equipment and client care in a fun and energetic environment. These seemingly "cosmetic" procedures can change lives and she is excited to encourage all the students to pursue a career in this rewarding field.

Brooke has 20 years combined experience as a licensed cosmetologist, aesthetician, medical aesthetician and laser and light-based technician; with 8 years experience managing and providing services in a successful salon and spa in Seattle, Wa where she grew up. After riding out the rain for 40 years in Emerald City, Brooke decided to dry out here in North Scottsdale where she currently teaches at NLI and resides as lead laser and light technician for a busy dermatology practice.

Tara has been a licensed medical aesthetician for over 10 years. She has also owned and operated a successful salon and spa for many years, as well as worked for a top dermatology and plastic surgery group here in the Phoenix valley. Tara has been an instructor at NLI for nearly three years. She is also a laser technician in the NLI medspa, and her specialties include Intense Pulse Light modalities and Acne treatments.
