Regulations

Many of our prospective students ask us: “Can I do laser if I don’t have a degree or only have a degree in _______” (fill in the blank).

After completing a National Laser Institute training course you will be certified to perform laser and medical aesthetic procedures.

The industry, however, is regulated on a state-by-state basis. In most states, after completing our NLI Training, anyone is qualified to work in a supervised setting. Some states, such as in California, for example, a technician must be at least a registered nurse to use a laser. In Florida a person has to be an electrologist or advanced practice nurse to perform laser. Most states allow anyone with NLI training to perform laser procedures in a qualified medspa or laser center. Please contact us if you have a question about your state.

Cosmetic Injections such as Botox, Dermal Fillers and Sclerotherapy typically must be performed by a registered nurse, physician assistant or physician. In some states a licensed vocational nurse or medical assistant are allowed to inject.

If you have specific questions about the state you live in please call us at 1-800-982-6817 and we will be happy to answer your questions.
